Memory Recall

by Guy Brighton

Microsoft SensecamSo the ink has been put to rest and the personal leather ‘diary’ is a thing of the past. With the recent explosion of blogging and the general aspect of capturing one’s life for all and sundry to see, we have to look beyond this amazing trend and ask - what lies ahead? The influx of digital cameras and mobile video technology has made capturing memories easier than ever before. So, what ‘is’ the future?

Still in its prototype stage Microsoft have developed the Sensecam.

Deriving from their lifetime storage experiment - MyLifeBits, the Sensecam is a badge-sized wearable camera that captures up to 2000 VGA images per day into 128Mb FLASH memory. In addition, sensor data such as movement, light level and temperature is recorded every second. This is similar to an aircraft Black Box accident recorder but miniaturised for the human body. Taking memory recall one step further, the Sensecam could aid various situations/personal needs from “where did I my leave my keys” to providing critical evidence in the event of an accident.
