Trends In Magazine Publishing
With Cargo, Lucky and all the talk about Curated Consumption you could be forgiven - for a brief moment - for thinking that the future of magazine publishing is all about shopping. But PSFK has spotted two trends worth noting:
Arty Mags![]()
Being up on your culture seems to be the new rage: Conde Nast has announced they’ll be launching a new art magazine with James Truman and the New Yorker showed the way when they broke the 1 million circulation mark last week. Writers could well be the new rock stars: Trendcentral reported recently that “it” magazine of the moment among trendy UK booklovers is Zembla, a new literary magazine that is attracting the design/fashion crowd. The magazine’s trendy layout and artistic covers have attracted trendsetter devotees - as well as advertisers such as Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander, Christian Dior, Paul Smith, Issey Miyake, and Beck’s.
Cross-Niche
Modern Dog demonstrates the new trend towards publishing for two overlapping (or in this case: on-your-lapping - ho ho) audiences. Paris Hilton sits with her little Chihuahua on the cover for this new pets and celebrities mag. Whilst Sync and Dub reflect this trend with their celebrity cross over with gadgets and cars respectively Time Inc. have just announced the launch of Find! a cross between Reality TV and Antique Collecting. Find! will feature the Leigh and Leslie Keno from TV hit Antiques Roadshow as they explores people’s throw-aways to find real treasures.
