With the Olympics well underway we thought we’d look at all the cool trend spotting sites and see what sports-related sneakers and products the pundits have been awarding medals to recently. (Click thumbnails to see larger images in pop up windows)

fencing_sneakerUrban Junkies report on the ‘Fencing’ shoe available exclusively from oki-ni. Designed originally for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, the shoe is made from metallic mesh with vinyl and rubber trims

antelope_sneakerThey also suggest you check out the vintage ‘Antelope’ Olympic racing trainer. Launched at the 1968 Olympics in elk leather, the new limited edition version is now available in three shades of metallic leather.

Josh Rubin reported on ‘Crooked Tongues’ who have teamed up with New Balance to make two new colorways of the 576.

baby_nike_sneakerFor the future Olympian Josh can’t get enough of recommending these hemp Nike cuties: ‘Nike Baby Dunk Lo SB’ – “one of the most wanted Baby shoes on the planet right now”

sneaker forbesOn the eco-friendly theme SneakerFreaker go crazy for the new ‘Reese Forbes SB’ and even tell you where and how to buy them in Japan.

sneaker_athens_rowingg_casualBeing Hunted spotted the new Adidas ‘Fast Lap Casual’ range. They think the line is pretty slick including this rowing beauty.

reebok_machineAnd where do you get all these from? Engadget tells us how Reebok has launched a Sneaker Vending Machine that takes your 60 bucks and dispenses a refrigerated Reebok Travel shoe in the size and color of your choosing.

AddictOlympic22But not everyone is loving the apparent commercialization of the Games. M!Publication are making themselves heard with a special supporting CapitalismTM by Kimberly Lloyd: a very private apparel collection based on Adidas and Nike.

Nothing like a little protest to get the blood racing, eh?

  1. Sorry Mate did not get this one to you in time,

OKI NI who collaborate with Adidas to produce Limited edition trainers (Their store is on Saville Row in London and is well worth a visit as they also collaborate with Levi and Evisu on Limited Edition jeans. What’s also interesting is that the owners of Oki Ni are also involved in fashion wholesale of some major fashion brands)

Back to Trainers – For the Olympics they released a new fencing trainer – I Quote:

“Originally from the 1964 Tokyo Olympics this Fencing shoe is launched in 3 exclusive colour ways at oki-ni. In limited numbers this distinctive shoe comes in a metallic mesh with contrasting vinyl and rubber trims in true representation of the fencing sport. The hexagonal stamped sole features large ‘cut outs’ at critical pressure points ensuring the wearer is completely balanced and aware of their environment. An asymmetrical foxing protects and supports the inside of the foot with the Adidas 3 stripes only featuring on the outer side. Other features include an oversized heel counter, a fleece lined rubber tongue and the now familiar dual branded in-sole of oki-ni and Adidas.”

  2. Piers,

You could have done with olympic sneakers that time when you missed a pitch presentation at Tate & Lyle and then went AWOL. Good job.

  3. Stella McCartney for Adidas (yeah, but is she really the one designing it…)
