Strolling the international streets last week PSFK came across a peculiar spotting. A ‘queue’ of all things – and we weren’t even in London! Sneaker freaks chilled in deck chairs playing Monopoly outside the General Pants Store, Bondi Junction (Aus). Why? Not for the Monopoly championships that’s for sure. It was of course for the arrival of Nike’s latest limited edition ‘Dunkle‘, exclusive to General Pants.
The new Dunkle features the latest Futura images made from water base inks and embroideries and completed with a combination of leather and nubuck. Dunkles were available in pink, black and white. We say ‘were’ – all pairs sold within 2 hours of the store opening. Lucky purchasers, guests (and PSFK) got to wind down the evening by sampling the sounds of the Sneaky Sound system, adding a few creases in their new purchase and of course a couple of cheekies from the bar.
On closer inspection of the Dunkle – PSFK reckon Nike have taken heed of the new sneaker trend – ‘Customisation‘, and adopted a similar stance with their design.

Great post Ian. Hope you got a great pair of sneakers. Makes me want to fly over and get my own.
The NY Times today featured a lengthy article about customization using the web. They cite firims like Nike, Vans, Timberland, Polo Ralph Lauren, Target, Daniella Simmons and LandsEnd.com who offer customizing of some of their lines through web applications.
The customization boom is going to take over all over the world.

Didn’t get a pair myself. Not my kinda’ sneak. Starting to see much more of the graff sneakers on the street now – there were loads here..even the ’secretary’ is starting to wear them to work.
