PSFK has always been struck by the gaudy decoration, bright colors and fake diamonds on Asian cell phones. Now that trend seems to be taking off in the US - this time with real rocks.

Motorola, Baby Phat and Bloomingdale’s have announced the new Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons i833 Motorola phone: a limited edition mobile phone accented with real diamonds. “I designed this phone for the woman who, like me, loves pink, loves diamonds, and wants to make a fashion statement, ” said Kimora Lee Simmons, founder and creative director of Baby Phat.

We wondered if there’s an opportuinity for the new diamond makers featured in our article ‘Diamond Geezers’ could get get involved there!

Escada and Siemens are also releasing their stitch marked SL65 in time for Christmas. The phone, which will cost over $1000, is encrusted with Swarovski crystal beads and has a pearl and metallic finish to go with Escada’s current “Denim and Diamonds” 2004 season theme. There’s three strings of freshwater pearls attached with a solid silver ‘double e’ logo decorated with zirconia stones.
