Buy US A Smart Car

There are few occasions in these challenging times where I stop on the corner of Houston and Broadway and look up to the heavens and say ‘Thank The Lord’. Today was one of those occasions when I learned that - finally - Mercedes was going to introduce their Smart Cars to the US.

All over the world people zip round in these nifty (8ft long), fuel efficient (70 miles a gallon), attractive (a billion colors and designs, well almost) little motors. Seriously, you can park these beauties anywhere. In Europe they now have a sports-car version and the news is that America will be given a special version all for themselves. An SUV version of course!

For a moment, on that corner, I wondered why America is the last country on earth to get these motors then I saw the slow sea of huge automobiles trying to travese this city and I smelt the fear for change in the air (see MSNBC’s analysis of ‘Is It Safe?’).

America: If Mini can do it, we know Smart Car can too!
