No Mobile TV?

by Piers Fawkes

PSFK isn’t too sure what to make of this news reported by the BBC about the release of a new report, Mobile Content and Services Use in Europe 2004, by Jupiter.

Consumers ’snub portable video’

Consumers want music rather then movies while on the move, says a report. Produced by Jupiter Research the analysis of the portable media player market found only 13% of Europeans want to watch video while out and about. By contrast, almost a third are interested in listening to music on a portable player such as an iPod. [Jupiter] said gadget makers should avoid hybrid devices and instead make sure music reproduction was as good as possible.

Well, if you ask people if they want something that they don’t realise they ‘need’ (nor have tried) they’re likely to say no. The much-recounted tale of the negative feedback about the ‘Sony Walkman’ concept springs to mind. And where did that lead us?
