Philippe Starck, whose surreal interiors still define Miami’s Delano, is returning to South Beach to design another hotel — across the street from his original creation. The new owners of the Ritz Plaza hotel have signed Starck as their designer for a warmer feeling than the Delano’s famed white-on-white look. ‘I don’t think we’re going to go for — to use the pun — as `stark’ a design,” said Paul Makarechian, one of the developers. “It will have a little bit more of a connection with old Europe. It won’t be as modern, I guess is a way of saying it.”

Minimalism is dead in Hotel Design.
In London the Hemple Hotel which started the whole new wave of luxury hotels many years ago has been sold for only £12m. I also understand that many of the celebs who were to frequent the Starck Hotel St Martins and the Soho based Sanderson have never turned up prefering the old stalwart 5 star hotels of West London.
In Ireland hat designer Philip Tracey has apparantly been commissioned to design the inside of a new luxury costal retreat hotel called “The G”. This is more like the designer / hotel collaborations we have mentioned on PSFK in the past.
