Josh Rubin seems to have tapped into a groundswell of interest in the Adidas sneaker recently featured in the film ‘Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou‘. In the film, the team of barmy oceanographers have their own branded uniform/kit that includes Adidas sponsored sneakers.

Josh suggests that we send an email to Adidas Customer Service in the hope that enough interest will spur the sought after Adidas Zissou sneaker into production.

We joined the campaign by bombarding the Adidas e-switchboard with a request but our high and mighty status ;) didn’t seem to have had much impact. Here’s there response.

Hello Piers,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate your interest in our company.

Unfortunately, the Zissou is a "one-off" custom model made especially for that project and it will not be available for sale. The Zissou actually is a version of the ROM, with "zissou" on the side in place of "rom". Here are some specialty dealers who usually carry the ROM:

If you would like to talk with us our number is 1-800-982-9337. We are here Monday through Friday 9AM to 9PM (Eastern Time) and Saturday 12PM to 5PM (Eastern Time). Thank you for your pursuit of the adidas brand. It’s always great to hear from customers who share our passion for sports and the sporting lifestyle.

Here’s the response to our response:

Hello,

I have added you to our growing list of requests!  Please understand that the Futures system used in this industry puts a burden on foresight and demand forecasting.  Any manufacturer can produce any product they think will sell, but if their retailers are not interested, there is no reason to go to production.  To voice demand to the retailers as well as the manufacturer will greatly increase your effectiveness.  As much as sales reps will try to influence them, Retail Buyers need to understand there is a demand.  Sometimes that influence comes only from the Consumer.
