The New Berlin? The New Prague?

Knauss020305PSFK went to Warsaw the other week to check out whether rumors that the Polish capital is the ‘new Berlin’. It’s a lovely town – a gateway to Eastern Europe, and worth a visit – but we just couldn’t find that anarchic artistic buzz that filled the Berlin air when we first started visiting the city six or seven years ago. We want to go to Krakow next – maybe we’ll get better luck there.

Meanwhile, the Guardian’s travel section recently gave a clue where to look for the new Prague: Ljubljana in Slovenia. The paper says:

“Some folk are trying to claim that Brno is the new Prague (there’s a new Ryanair route opening next month). Don’t believe them.”

Gridskipper commented on this article and gave there three reasons why Ljubljana got there vote:

1) 50,000 of its 280,000 residents are students
2) Slovenia was beating the crap out of Hungary in the 2005 European Weblog Awards
3) Donald Trump’s wife Melania Knauss is a Slovene.

So somewhere new to plan to ‘let it all hang out’ this year….
