Last month saw the launch of the world’s first digital cinema network in the UK. Over the next 18 months up to 250 screens in up to 150 cinemas will be fitted with digital projectors capable of displaying high definition images.
Now, a consortium of Singaporean companies with the government take digital cinema one step further. They have piloted a system that involves seamless end-to-end digital delivery of film from initial processing in the U.S. to appearance on a movie screen in Singapore. The system is called ‘Cross-Continent Digital Content Transmission’
The initiative aims to extend Singapore’s hub status into the digital realm to distribute, processing and management of digital film content through Singapore to the Asian markets. To-date, more than 13 first run digital features have been screened in Singapore’s digital cinemas.
