Murdoch Finally Thinks He Should Look At The Web

by Guy Brighton

Rupert Murdoch has said that he got it wrong in regards to digital media. The Guardian newspaper reports:

In a speech to American editors in Washington, Mr Murdoch issued a
stark warning to the industry, arguing that the web was "a
fast-developing reality we should grasp." He said consumers wanted "control over the media, instead of being controlled by it", pointing to the proliferation of website diaries
known as "blogs" and message boards. And newspaper editors simply cannot afford to ignore this, he said, or to look down on readers or ignore what they actually wanted.

He’s saying that now? To Americans? You have to wonder if Mr. Murdoch aware of the great efforts of some US newspapers to utilize the digital medium? Look at the New York Times and the array of digital features it offers and there are plenty of other examples: I can even download a podcast from the Wall Street Journal.

In fact, PSFK is beginning to think it’s the blogs that are in danger of being superseded not the papers.
