Business Week: How Not To Blog
We’ve watched this for too long. We had to say something. When BW created their blogs we thought that they would utilize their resources to bring a premium level of content to our RSS feeders. What they achieved is shallow, weak and feeble. Considering that BW claim they practice "their craft in accordance with the highest standards" BW should be embarrassed by what they have achieved and take down all the blogs.
OK, ok, if we had to choose, we’d cut down the Blogspotting one and Brand New Day. And Brand New Day isn’t as bad as Blgsptg because the fellow who runs it hardly updates it – so there’s less to moan about. What really grates us is the ‘oh, wow – look at us, we’re blogging‘ attitude of Blogspotting. Whilst the rest of the bloggers and focusing on our content, the authors of Blgsptg are like children still amazed at their toys. ‘Ooh, have you heard about Podcasting? How do you do it then?’ (And then when they find out, they report to make themselves look like a poorman’s Lifehacker).
Their posts are naive, occasional, seemingly picked at random and ill considerd. Surely an organization like BW should mention things like the greater threat of Craigslist when they talk about blogging’s threat to eBay. Moreso, if you exclude the posts about how the authors are having trouble getting to grips with technology or how their bosses won’t give them any time, all the other pieces they write about are already widely available in the blogosphere, widely commented upon by more authoritative web-critics.
So what is the point BW? Why did you tease us and then not deliver? Do us a favor and take the blogs down.
