RizeThere seem to be two films eagerly waited for this summer, Rize and Lords Of Dogtown. Both tell the story of the development of sub-cultures in the LA area, but that’s where the similarities stop.

LaChapelle’s "RIZE" reveals a groundbreaking dance phenomenon, "Krumping," that’s
exploding on the streets of South Central, Los Angeles. Taking
advantage of unprecedented access, this documentary film brings to
first light a revolutionary form of artistic expression borne from
oppression. The aggressive and visually stunning dance modernizes moves
indigenous to African tribal rituals and features mind-blowing,
athletic movement never before seen in dance. Due Summer 2005.

002_l1"Lords Of Dogtown" tells the story of how a group of 70s skaters known as the Z-Boys of Dogtown – a
slum in Venice, California – began mixing surfing techniques with
skateboarding and created a sport for the counterculture that’s still
going strong 30 years later. Anyone who has seen the terrific documentary Dogtown & Z-Boys will understand the attraction of this film. Due June 2005

  1. The lordsofdogtown.com website is cool. A lot of behind the scenes stuff, skateborading history, webisodes, and a pretty cool old school game with Tony Alva’s voice.

I think it’s pretty cool. Can’t wait to see the movie.
