Did Coke Do Something Interesting?

Well we like to get off our high horse once in a while and talk to people. I asked one of the young people I work with to comment on PSFK’s post last week on the impact of the new Coke bottle wraps in "Coke Does Something Interesting, Maybe" – here’s her reponse:

To be honest I have no idea who many of those people are who are meant to be advertising for Coca Cola, apart from the more modern idols such as Rooney. However, when it writes, ‘may not appeal to its target audience’ (or something like that) I would have to disagree.

For me, the bottle image featured on the site looks really pretty and appeals to me greatly; it doesn’t really matter to me who designed it. For teenagers who like individuality, this bottle is ideal to them, and more than likely could become a new sort of craze such as the coloured-wristbands (originally for charity). Saying this, I think Coca Cola should be careful that the bottle designs don’t become too over-publicized as I think that the original intent for the bottle idea (charity) will be overlooked, and possibly more seen as fashion.

Most teenagers will be interested in this idea, I think, because it’s main target is to raise money for charity, I think there is a growing awareness of charity nowadays in teenagers, for instance, Race For Life is more popular than ever, and teenagers are taking part.

I do agree with the article in some ways though, it questions do kids these days actually read the press, I think, by the age of 15/16 years, most teenagers are actually taking more of an interest in the press, but obviously if Coca Cola really wanted to advertise to this audience, it would have to be though TV or radio.

Thanks Littler!
