Customized Perfumes

The Do-It-Yourself trend has spread to everything from furniture to shoes (Puma, Converse, Nike..etc). Surely, its not too long before it hits the products in the luxury sector, more specifically, perfumes.

Trendy women are fast becoming experimental with perfumes. Using men’s colognes, using attars or essential oils or the ones who can afford, assigning a professional perfumier to create a unique fragrance for themselves.

But can this personalization be extended to the average consumer who prefers to spend not more than $100 on a bottle of perfume? Body Shop thinks so.

BodyShop Blendables a collection of 9 little vials of unique fragrances that encourage women to mix and match to create their own distinct fragrance has caught on like fire. For $28, it offers women the luxury of owning their own fragrance, a new one everytime at that! When it initially introduced the Blendables, they became so popular that every BodyShop store was sold out. The Blendables weren’t even available online– and the stores were flooded with requests.

The only drawback is, the little vials hold too little of the scent. And its easy to use up one’s favorite scent and leave the remaining unused. Can you imagine a Do-It-Yourself perfume store where for an affordable flat-fee, women can create their own fragrance? Maybe have a counter of essentail first, second and third notes of fragrance lined up and have women experiment until they find something they like?? Worth a shot…
