I also write a regular column on the designer toy movement for IdN magazine, and have exhibited in the ’2 Steps Back’ touring exhibition and book (by 55DSL, Switzerland), as well as the ‘Designed to help’ book. I have 2 new toys out through Trexi and LMAC, and recently started the sketchel project.
sketchel is a customised satchel I designed, launched at Design is Kinky’s Semi Permanent 05 conference, with artists such as Tim Biskup, Bob Kronbauer, Gary Baseman, Genevieve Gauckler, Nathan Jurevicius, Josh Petherick, Yok, Tado, Jon Burgerman, Rolitoboy, Jaime Hayon, Saiman Chow, and about 230 really great international artists. They customised panels which were made into sketchel bags. An online sketchel gallery at my site is coming up soon, with the 500 or so sketchels shown there.
I just finished a big animation job for MTV Latin America, and just put up my new t-shirts and products at my online store. I love collaborations, so I’ll be doing more of that.
My influences/inspirations are more from architecture, product design, independent films, children’s story books, and old records. I have an architecture degree from Sydney University, and never studied graphic design or web design. I prefer to teach myself such important things.
Some of my favourite creative people are Warhol, Ray & Charles Eames,Stanley Kubrick, Tim Buckley, Bob Dylan, Alvar Aalto, and Theodore Geisel.
