Research Using Flickr

A couple of months ago, IF sister site PSFK ran a competition encouraging users of photo-sharing site to upload images around a theme. For the first month PSFK got back images of ‘cool jeans’, the next month was ‘cool bikes’ and the third as ‘cool robot’.

Hundreds and hundreds of photos around the world came in for the PSFK Cool Hunt. By putting the images together in a document, PSFK was able to create a trends report around each concept. Each trend was broken down by global region and with enough photos could have been broken down by individual city.
