"I like to drink this more often," my German guide told me yesterday. "I prefer the flavour." The twenty something Essen lad wasn`t talking about the pilsner I was supping – he was talking about the green bottle in his hand containing a mix of lime-lemonade with beer.
In the land of great beer, alcopops have evolved into beers mixed with soda. Young adults (and underage teens) are turning to a premixed alternative to regular beers. The popularity of the drinks seems to be also spurred by the lower alcohol content.
Another favourite is a brand called Diesel from the Sternburg brewery – a cola-beer mix!

This is something we drink quite often around here and it’s been around for ages. I guess they’re bound to bottle anything these days. We stick to the homemade variety, it’s called a shandy and usually involves beer and 7Up.
