Smart Carding Philly

Philadelphia’s parking system has sucessfully incorporated computer chip enabled cards called Smart Cards to save car-drivers time and the hunt for change! Car Drivers only need to buy the cards (available in a variety of denominations) and slide them through the parking meters. The cards automatically deduct money for the amount of time required.

Ompay, based in Philadelphia has pioneered the technology. "The firm’s goal is to get it so that traverls use just one card to wave their way through PATCO and SEPTA turnstiles, parking garage gates, and even at train ticket kiosks in outlying areas such as New York’s Penn station."

  1. In Norway we have gone a step further. We slide our VISA credit card through the parking bill meter when we arrive. When we leave we slide the card through the same parking bill meter, and our bank account is deducted for the amount we have to pay for the parking.

  2. out here in Los Angeles, the city is testing a system that allows people to pay for public parking with their mobile phones. helpful in a city where driving and parking can be brutal.
