Album_picphp_1Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons and his wife Kimora have produced a $35,000 case for the PSP. The Baby Phat is made out of a pound of gold, alligator skin and yellow and black diamonds. But what’s interesting about this story, reported in AllHipHop.com, is Simmons take on the diamond industry:

“I’m pushing for factories and schools in Africa so people can make
their own jewelry and learn how to export them,” Simmons said. The
Simmons’ announced the formation of the jewelry company in January of
2004 with M. Fabrikant & Sons, one of the oldest and largest distributors of diamonds and jewelry in the world.

"One of my main goals is to inspire African-Americans to own equity in
businesses that they influence around the world," Simmons told
AllHipHop.com in January of 2004. Simmons said the diamonds sold by The
Simmons Jewelry Company are inspected to ensure they are conflict free.
A portion of the proceeds also benefit communities affected by the
diamond trade.
