Schweizer Kuriertasche

Schweizer Kuriertasche

By Guy Brighton on September 8, 2005

We’ve received a hot tip for this winter’s accessory here in Europe: the Schweizer Kuriertasche, or "Swiss Military Blanket Bag". Switzerland, capable of fallout-sheltering its entire population, must have recognised that the nuclear threat is not quite as bad as it used to be. Next logical step: get rid of surplus equipment, including vintage 1930s (!) blankets and rugs.

Designer Christoph Hack recognised the potential and added some fail-safe ingredients (messenger bag, Switzerland, Swiss army, uniqueness) to create what could be the Next Big Thing. It also helps that continental Europe is saturated with those disused tarpaulin bags: time for something new! And what more, the Schweizer Kuriertasche is affordable and comes in various shapes, too.

It’s weatherproof, which should answer the initial question that comes to mind, and will keep that iBook of yours snug and warm.

Currently available from Manufactum.
