This afternoon approximately 100,000 commuters exited the Queens Midtown Tunnel in New York to see nothing! No, Long Island did not disappear in a David Copperfield-esque stunt. The first and most visible billboard was totally blank. The absence of color on this board was quite powerful and demanded attention.
Media normally bombards New York City commuters. For this reason, an entirely white billboard cuts through the normal clutter. Further, when the board is rented, the contrast between previously empty space and the large image on this board will certainly attract active readers. Perhaps “nothing” will only affect each commuter once. If so, marketers should make this one count. You have hundred of thousands of people waiting to read your message. Let’s see what you do with it.
Do you think nothing will eventually sell something?
