Emap Buys Trends Blog For £140m
British magazine publishing group Emap has reportedly bought trends site WGSN for £140m. The passworded site was founded by brothers Marc and Julian Worth with the aim to help clothes buyers to spot the latest in style trends.
We must say ‘hats off’ to the brothers - a tremendous win AND amazing timing. Regular readers may have noticed a theme recently where we questioned the longevity of established trends services such as WGSN in our new era of open-source blogs, flickr and other tools 2.0. And we’re not alone.
WGSN employs 150 people and has 1,500 subscribers to its service, which starts at £13,000 a year for five subscriptions. Most trend blogs are free, PSFK’s IF is $20 a month.
Maybe someone should have told the execs at Emap about RSS ;)
