Marketing blogger Tim Leberecht thinks that he’s fouud a crafty way of ‘advertising’ for free on Technorati. He says:
On its right sidebar, Technorati pulls images from Flickr whose tags match the search keyword. Now, if you upload pictures on Flickr, you can give them tags that are indexed by Technorati and thus be displayed on either the results page or on a “More Flickr images” page.
So, for example, Flickr images that contain the tag “TiVo” show up next to the “TiVo” blogs results. It’s basically paid keyword advertising for free: If you have something to promote, it might be a good idea to upload a bunch of images (which are in fact banners) on Flickr and then tag them with the keyword you want them to be associated with on Technorati.
The only issue we can see with this approach is that Technorati shows the latest image on its page. So you’d have to be uploading pretty frequently or choosing a niche subject.
