Today I rediscovered the public library. I recently returned to live in the US after 3 years in Mexico. Libraries weren’t as big of a thing there – or maybe it was just the fact that I knew all of the books would be in Spanish…I never went.
But even before that, I can’t say that I’ve really visited a library since I left college. Today I went to my Public Library with picture ID in hand, and walked out with my new library card, 3 cookbooks, 1 book on Buzz Marketing, and 2 DVDs. During my visit there I also browsed through a couple of magazines & newspapers. I even went into the Auditorium to see the art of Emilio Sanchez exhibited. And did I mention that I used Miami’s free downtown transportation system, MetroMover, to get there?
It may seem obvious to some, but by using the public library systems, we can share a lot of materials that we really don’t need individual copies of, and we just might get a little extra culture along with it. Go rediscover your library.
