Coleman Coleman Natural Foods and Wild Oats Markets are teaming up for the "Coleman Eco-Project 2015". An impressive commitment, the companies are launching a 10-year long conservation program this month.

Basically, Wild Oats will have tear-off pads with a bar code at their registers. Customers can choose if they would like to make a donation, in the amounts of $1, $5, or $10. Coleman will plant one tree for every dollar donated. The Challenge is not reliant on the purchase or sales of Coleman products.

Sounds great. I’m impressed that these two companies have stepped up with a plan that is thinking so long term. So here’s my challenge back to them: Why use tear-off pads at the register? Can’t you come up with something reusable so that people don’t tear off a piece of paper and throw it away?

But I hate to end on a negative note. Congrats to Coleman and Wild Oats! May you plant many trees.
