Young Males Leave The Flicks

by Guy Brighton

Surprise, surprise: research shows that young men (film’s critical market) are abandoning the film theaters to engage in a digital lifestyle:

In a survey of 2,000 moviegoers by OTX, an online research company based in Los Angeles, American men under 25 said they had seen 24 percent fewer movies this summer than they did in the summer of 2003, when the same study was last conducted…

Instead, young men aged 13 to 25 reported that they were busy surfing the Web, instant-messaging with friends and playing video games on consoles like PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

So… that makes you wonder what exactly is going to happen when Apple truly gets involved with video? A radical rethink of film disstribution (at last)?
