Napster Founder Launches Snocap

by Guy Brighton

Back in February we wrote about Snocap:

Snocap is aimed at legitimizing peer to peer, end to end
music distribution through networks sanctioned by music labels. Once
songs have been registered and copyright information has been
placed in to Snocap’s database, the labels themselves are able to
manage the P2P distribution of content by establishing business rules
for individual tracks.

Basically, it’s a P2P system
that you pay for.The NY Times ran a major article on Snocap at the
weekend which is worth a read - but we seem to remember something that
hasn’t been reported: rumor back in Feb was that file sharers would get
a share of the revenue made from each sale of files they shared - a
kind of affiliate scheme! Hmmm, something to watch maybe.
