The Return Of Rye

A recent chat to a group of Manhattan cocktail makers in New York made us aware of growing popularity of rye. "Gin was the new vodka," one worldly off duty bartender said to me. "Rye is now the new gin. But always choose straight rye!"

Rye is the original American whiskey and the rising popularity of rye is helped by the fact that it blends very well with cocktails. Rye is not too sweet and the flavor shines through in cocktails.  The legendary Manhattan cocktail was a drink made for rye.
