A phone that supports Skype (without the need of a computer) and makes calls using WiFi is due for launch next year, Engadget reports. The WiFi SkyFone WM1185-T from Accton starts shipping early next year with a retail price of below $150. In theory, WiFi phones should have a huge impact on the telecoms market (esp as they don’t have to place calls through regular cell phone network careers) – but should we be interested in this phone? You tell us.

Actually, this is not that new a thing.
SkyNET has this sort of phone in the works for a launch early next year.
We also, right now, have a USB soft-phone based appliance that will allow you to place a WiFi VoIP call with the laptop you already have.
All you need is a Hot Spot. Starbuck’s, Mickey D’s, the airport…anywhere.

Wireless VOIP phone
It will allow you to make phone calls using your broadband connection, whether you are at home, in your office, or at a public hotspot. Probably a reason why e-bay bought skype?

You can do this right now with the USB phone I mentioned earlier.
Your broadband connection or at some Hot Spot….it works anywhere.
