Will eBay Change eRetail Forever With RSS?

eBay have introduced RSS to three sections of their site: eBay Stores, Discussion Boards, and the Announcement Board. It’s the first step, we think, towards changing the dynamics of online retail: Imagine being able to one day find and track auctions on certain keywords by RSS? The impact could be huge! We asked eBay if they were considering it. They sent us this rather dull reply:

We have not made any specific announcements about extending RSS capabilities beyond the three areas where they exist now…  We will continue to evaluate and talk to our community about where RSS feed capability may make sense. But we don’t pre-announce anything.

Sounds like a definite then ;)

  1. Yahoo Auctions has been doing this in Japan for some time now.

  2. Have they now? Thanks!

  3. Uh… ever heard of craigslist? They’ve been doing it for.. hmm.. ever?

  4. Why it sounds so exiting is that eBay is omnipresent, or feels like it. From my travels, I feel that everyone young and old uses it – and that’s something Craigslist has yet to achieve. Therefore eBay with RSS is more interesting that Criagslist with RSS. That’s our POV, Ted.
