Arrovo

Arrovo

By Jason Tan on December 7, 2005

Recently in the Philippines, a batch of misprinted 100-peso bills was released into circulation. The bills spell out the last name of the reigning president as "Arrovo" (it’s "Arroyo").

A number of citizens now believe that the government will someday buy back all these Arrovos at a premium to bury this embarassing turn of events. There’s a bit of a slot machine mentality going on in some local ATM machines. It isn’t a surprise these days to see someone in search of an Arrovo withdrawing cash in purely 100-peso denominations.
