wheresgeorge.com has actually been around for a while now; since 1998 to be exact and while it’s pretty simple, it remains fun. The way it works is this. You either enter the serial number and series of a bill you find with the www.wheresgeorge.com site written on it or you can register fairly anonymously on their homepage and enter a new bill of your own. Then you get to see just where your money has been; or at least where someone with an easy sense of humor has encountered the bill. Some people get really addicted and enter thousands of notes.
Here is a link to one of the earliest news stories about the site from NPR.org. It’s an audio link so make sure the sound is up.
Great for kids or maybe an intro economics class as you can see how money circulates aournd the states. Some of it really gets around. Now when someone tells you, "you don’t know where it’s been" you can tell them; actually, yes, you do know.
There is also a site for the Canadians.
