FMS Diary: Huh? What’s Up With Flickr

By Guy Brighton on January 31, 2006

So for the life of me I can’t figure out this issue with the Flickr images
showing up only when we are logged in. The one possibility that I can
discern is that Flickr deemed our images to fall within their NIPSA code
which deals with images that are copyrighted or not our own photos. (the
Madonna group had the same issue so I’ve learned. And unjustly so).

NIPSA = Not In Public Site Area

Seems that Flickr is a little fascist is what they deem suitable material.
Some other poor bloke had a picture blacklisted because some some random
do-good viewer saw the word Terrorist and decided that it might offend
people. Still, it seems very bizarre that it is strictly the IBC images that
disappear when you logout. Right daft it be.

Should we ask Piers about this? I was going to blog my In Utero image on my
own blog as a lark but there is no point if it isn’t up there.

We should do some research into other’s takes on Flickr. Are we the only
morons out there who find it unintuitive, ugly, and irrelevant?

!!

I emailed Flickr for more info
