Ikea Move Inner City

by Guy Brighton in Retail, Home & Garden

IkeaIkea are about to spend £1billion in the UK to open 10 city centre stores because they have found building new out-of-town sites difficult. Proposed sites include Ashton, Stockport and Coventry. Peter Högsted, managing director of
Ikea UK, has been reported by the Telegraph as saying that company’s attempts to build out-of-town shops had
been frustrated by planners. "The only way we can expand in the UK is close to the city centres and we have decided to do that," Högsted said.
