Location Based Radio For Tourists

Location Based Radio For Tourists

By Guy Brighton on January 19, 2006

Cape Town is to get its first Location Based Radio station. The station is aimed at the legions of tourists that steal the locals’ parking spaces around this time of year. A GPS device is stuck into hire cars and taxis and as they pass certain points in town – they get location specific information about that area.

The service will include commentary on tourist hotspots, local music, events and information as well as sneaky advertising for local business; if you’re not passing anywhere interesting the station defaults to a live broadcast. Sounds splendidly futuristic, of course it’ll only be as good as the content they put on it. I’m sure there are lots of other fun business ideas you could create with similar technology.
