Sustainable mosque for London

Markaz1A giant, futuristic mosque is being proposed beside the 2012 Olympic complex in Newham, London. According to Mangera Yvars Architects, the company that designs the mosque, the project is intended to be a prototype for sustainability. The mosque’s design incorporates various sustainable energy technologies, such as wind turbine minarets, tidal power generators, and solar cells.

Interestingly, the design and proposal for the mosque might be the start of a new missionary branding initiative for Islam that places emphasis on environmental consciousness. The religion forbids "spoiling the earth after Almighty Allah has created it" including "spoiling the environment, polluting it or being aggressive with it" (from Islam Online).
