Xfire’s main purpose is to make it easy to play games online with your friends. The owners describe it as a “a combination of a social networking and community site with a media and ad buying site, all designed around gaming.” CNN suggests that Xfire could be the next MySpace! As a user, you can see when your friends are online, what game they’re playing, and what server they’re on. Simply join in on their games with one click.

Inspiration to make things better.
This is an interesting application which popped up on my radar when I started looking at how AOL might evolve its “AIMspace” service (currently in development). XFire was, when I wrote about it, an example of a potential AOL purchase; something to fuse with AIMspace to give it something similar to how MySpace has music.
