Battle For The Bulge: Pay Congestion Charge By Text

By Piers Fawkes on March 28, 2006

This poster spotted in London tells readers, "The quickest way to pay Congestion Charge is by text message." The Congestion Charge is a cost to enter the center of London in your car during the day. It is enforced by a ring of cameras that scan registration (license) plates – and the owners of the cars are expected to pay on or before the day of visit, or face increasingly larger fines the later they pay the fee.

Anyway, what’s more interesting is the fact that people can pay for the Charge by text. If you’re planning to go into the City or West End, you can just send a simple text message and your bank or credit card will be charged automatically.

Although a little basic, it’s a manifestation of the ‘Battle For The Bulge’ trend – the idea that one day one device will handle your calls and many of your other needs, including your money.
