LifeBlogging. What camera phone photos MEAN for your blog!
I just finished the book “Making Meaning: How successful businesses deliver meaningful customer experiences”, so many of my examples are based on the ideas and my understandings of the book.
As an avid web user and blogger, I’ve come across many different blogs with a common theme; the authors personality. But what they don’t have in common is how they deliver a meaningful experience for their viewers. I think LifeBlogging from cell phones can evoke these meaningful experiences that many of your viewers will value.
1. Harmony – Seeking a work / life balance. When we see blogs from people who LifeBlog, we see them living their lives as we’re living ours. It’s instantaneous! We can sense how they balance what they do outside of the office and inside, and can then find similarities with them in our life. This also evokes the next experience of “Community”.
2. Community – A general connection with other human beings. LifeBlogging is a great way for you to build a loyal community of repeat visitors and also allows you to connect with people from around the world, which brings me to the next meaningful experience of “Oneness”.
3. Oneness – A sense of unity with everything around us. Not only are you attractive to the person in your own city, but you’re especially attractive to the reader in France who loves American culture and wants to really see what’s going on in the world from someone who they’ve already emotionally connected with. It’s the closest you can get to sharing your culture with the world via the net. This brings me to the next experience of “Wonder”.
4. Wonder – Awe in the presence of creation beyond one’s understanding. Let’s face it, blogs don’t really evoke to much amazement from us unless the author has some really cool pics! But an easy way you can get some “AWE’s” out of your viewers is with LifeBlogging, because it’s COOL and no one really does it, yet. I was just really put onto LifeBlogging about a month ago via Diane Pernet’s blog. It’s like you’re the phone, and have followed her around all day long, through her journey. I thought it was the hottest way to update a blog and still do!
5. Truth – A commitment to honesty and integrity. Your cell phone is with you, everyday, everywhere you go, which in essence, with LifeBlogging, depicts your everyday life. What might look like a special occasion taken on your digital camera, might look like a piece of true life taken on your camera phone, which can get a bit more intimate with your viewers. Oh yeah, and taking a photo right there in the moment, and uploading it straight to your blog is just about as honest as you can get.
So there you have it. Great talk about LifeBlogging and the positive meaningful experiences it evokes for your readers. O, and guess what. I don’t even do it! But it’s not by choice, I just don’t have the right phone or software just yet. Don’t worry, once I figure out what to do with this Blackberry ill be on it! Just think about the future possibilities with mobile technology servicing the chronic blogger. Filesharing anyone? FTP access? HTML capabilities? That’s another story.
