A video shows Second Life’s talking Philip Rosedale present his virtual to a Google employee audience. Second Life is now seeing transactions of $5 US million dollars a month. That’s made up of 4 million transactions and in the 30 days before the presentation, 180,000 distinct object had been bought and sold.

In the talk, Rosedale highlights a particular virtual gun created by a Seattle student that sells for a $1000 Linden dollars. The money made from sales has sent him to college. The talk also highlights the impact the world could have on the real economy. Geographic barriers to entry are removed. A kid in China could be the one selling that gun – making $5 US a sale!

The highest earner in the world is a woman in Germany who is making $175,000 a year buying, developing and selling real estate. But is it a bunch of IT nerds? 43% female, average age is 32, lots of people in their 50s, 60s and 70s and 25% non-US.

Are you on it yet?
