Site Visit: Quiksilver Soho

By Dave Pinter on March 28, 2006

Spring has yet to fully arrive to the streets and parks of NYC. But for the mannequin population inhabiting all the store windows, it’s all about short sleeves and sunglasses. This contributor’s riding out the rest of winter and won’t see the warmer temperatures of destinations to the south. But there is a little relief to be had by walking through the doors of famed surf gear shop, Quiksilver.

Quiksilver has been in existence since the 70′s and originally provided board shorts to surfers in California. The company has grown to include other sub brands that focus on skate and snow boarding. Quiksilver recently acquired the Rossignol Group which adds skiing to it’s portfolio.

The company has done well to mask it’s corporate structure from the extreme appeal of it’s products and stores. Quiksilver opened it’s first NYC flagship a few years ago in Times Square. The recently relocated Soho branch is an evolution of that design. By no means something you’d expect from a global conglomerate. Look closely and you’ll see some interesting quirks.
