Sending ads on your RSS feed is spam. It’s another news headline one has to go through and register-ignore/delete just like one would have to do with email spam. Marketing fellow Dan VanDen Heuvel thinks its a good idea though and sends an ad in RSS every other RSS feed. We think it’s pants.

Here’s what you get in the feed:

Don’t get us wrong - we don’t mind a banner ad in an RSS feed of an article we’re persuing - it’s just that in these days where RSS is as IMPORTANT to the way we work as EMAIL, an ad as an RSS headline is wasting our time, obtrusive and a poor way to find financial support for your blog/site.

  1. Couldn’t agree more Piers. At some point we have to stop introducing advertising into every walk of life. Already advertising has hit people’s foreheads and their behinds as well. As you correctly pointed out, with RSS the problem is its intrusiveness. Maybe we in PSFK should start a Ban RSS Advertising campaign.
