Design Is One By Massimo Vignelli

By Guy Brighton on April 24, 2006

A new book by active veteran designer, Massimo Vignelli, aims to educate designers to stop following trends in order to achieve good design. The book “Design Is One” is a review of Vignelli’s 50 years of work but, the Independent reports, the book is aimed to suggest that two things: Firstly, that a creative designer should be able to design everything – from a building to a spoon; and secondly, to achieve timelessness for their creations, designers must always eschew trends of the moment. He says:

“The responsibility of the designer is a major ones. Designers who do not have this sense of responsibility who are egocentric or are indulgent in what they do, they should be deprived of their professional rights. They damage society. They damage the environment.”
