My Robot Friend, ICA London

By Guy Brighton on April 10, 2006

Last week New York beloved Howard Rigberg AKA My Robot Friend enrolled a stellar performance at London’s ICA.

This multi-media extravaganza proved a culture shock, even to the art-enthused crowd at the ICA. Most had drifted in from a recently finished film premier to view the homemade Buzz Light Year in full synth-pop swing. Crooning his non-virtuous lyrics and simulating sexual acts, the crowd took time to adjust to the irony of his performance and the excess of flashing Christmas lights attached to him.

Charming quirks made it impossible to keep a straight face – fellow crude New Yorker Bingo Gazingo hobbled onto the stage to rap his thoughts on 80′s Sax player Kenny G.  And by close MRF was rubbing shoulders with the giggling punters, informing some poor thirty-something "you’re a bad pornographer" who could argue with a Jewish robosexual’?

My Robot Friend performed a select few tracks from his ‘Dial 0′ album which is released  Soma Records this June.
