WiLife Brought To You By Microsoft
We’ve talked before about the concept that all your entertainment media will one day be virtual and you will gather our movies and tunes from a virtual place. What we didn’t quite imagine was the idea that Microsoft would be the people giving us that virtual place, or "cloud" as the Redmond folk call it.
An article in Fortune looks at the future of Microsoft and one of the strongest plans is to build server farms that will hold 100% of users content. This service may be called the "LiveDrive":
Microsoft is planning to use its server farms to offer anyone huge amounts of online storage of digital data. It even has a name for that future service: Live Drive. With Live Drive, all your information - movies, music, tax information, a high-definition videoconference you had with your grandmother, whatever - could be accessible from anywhere, on any device.
Google also has plans for a GDrive service too.
OK, dear PSFK readers, let’s take this a couple of steps further. So imagine the mobile phone as a conduit device that allows you to access your media at any location and play it through the a/v technology at that location. Now imagine that Microsoft somehow uses its super effective salesforce team to grow the base of Windows operated phones from 13%. OK? So can you now imagine how huge LiveDrive could be??
