Michelle Morton-Banks is the most recent member of the PSFK team – as both a trends journalist and brand advocate, she steers the ship of fashion.psfk.

You name it, Michelle probably knows something about it. She believes in experimentation as one of the many fruits of life.  After working in News and Current Affairs at the BBC, she started her career in print journalism at IPC’s Muzik Magazine, but soon after dipped her toes into fashion, art and film – contributing to UK lifestyle Magazine ‘Clash’ countercultural art magazine ‘Blowback’, niche photographic publication ‘Kilimanjaro’ and Channel 4’s online creative project ‘IDEASFACTORY’.

Between editorial assignments, Michelle has also worked for heavy-weight brands such as Red Bull and Anheuser Bush. More recently, she was assigned uber-suave  campaigns from London’s Ramp Industries – Clarks Originals brand magazine ‘Walkie Talkie’ and Topshop’s London Fashion Week microsite. Michelle’s fascination with anything that’s newprevails throughout.

Michelle is obsessed with global movers and shakers – describing herself as “a self-confessed culture nerd”. She is forever trying to deepen her understanding of social sciences – specifically anthropology, and delves deeply into the sub-cultures that foster the development of new art, music and design. And to add to her quirky nature she cross-examines these practices with statistics – that’s generally her bedtime reading. Her favourite cultural theorists are Claude Levi Strauss, Jürgen Habermas and Jacques Lacan.

When Michelle is not living and breathing PFSK she can be found at gigs and global music festivals, (whenever there’s a press trip on offer). Her favourite to date are EXIT Serbia 2004, Heineken Greenspace in Valencia and of-course the rolling hills of Glastonbury. The funniest gig she’s been to recently was My Robot Friend at London’s ICA – boundary-bashing of any kind will keep her attention from dwindling. When editing the work of the PFSK global network, music keeps the cogs in her head from fusing.

Her other favourites are the sound of the ocean, talking about ideas, meeting like-minded people and trying to make the world an OK place to be. And of-course the question begs: Who are her favourite fashion designers?  Erderm, PPQ, Vivian Westwood, Jean Colonna, Viktor & Rolf, Naked Jeans, Emma Cook, and Primark when PFSK don’t pay her on time.

Michelle’s savvy mix of brand and editorial make her insights precise and commercially astute.
