Recently, we were invited by the MOMI to the screening of the first episode of a new show that’s about to appear on TV. Called Artstar, it follows a crazy few weeks where New York gallery owner Jeffrey Deitch runs a reality show to find an art star. Instead of competing with each other, the 8 artists who make the show work collaboratively to produce work for a joint show.
The episode we saw made the whole audience laugh because, let’s face it, watching artists seriously perform or explain their work is kind of crazy. But it you manage to watch the show – try to work out what’s happening behind the camera: why did one of the 8 artists chosen already have a show booked at Deitch’s gallery and why did one of the curators get fired from Deitch’s employment shortly after the filming ended??
