Classic Car Club, New York

By Guy Brighton on May 9, 2006

We popped by the Classic Car Club on New York’s Hudson Street at the weekend to remind ourselves of the beautiful motors they have in there. The New York office of the British specialist car rental company seems to have been thriving since we reported its launch in July 05.

Alonside the Ferrari and Lotus is this huge American Cadillac that had been repainted by British graff artist INSA just the week before. Classic Car Club rep, Justin Rees, reminded us that members pay a fee of about $9,000 a year which will give them 30 to 40 days rental. Actually, the fee gives you so many points a year – and the cars cost different points depending on the type of car and the day of the week – i.e. if you just want to drive Ferraris at the weekend, expect far fewer days. Points can be given as gifts and more can be purchased.

What’s also interesting about the service is the club aspect. Members get invited to special events – such as a drive in the cars from New York to Miami – and they can also hang out in the showroom day and night (via a special swipe card) with access to free beer and drinks.

The model seems to have been well thought out and there are plans to open in Miami and Los Angeles in the future. That will make the offer far more attractive – you’ll be able to use your points wherever you go: a far more interesting way to travel on business, no?
